A Weekend In Brampton

Perfect for a family getaway.

The Itinerary

This itinerary gives you an example of a family weekend in Brampton and the surrounding areas. There are of course many more places to visit, dine and stay, so we encourage you to take a look around our site at upcoming events, places to stay, places to eat and shops to browse!

An Action-Packed Day Of Adventure!

Saturday

Arriving in the centre of Brampton you will be met by our iconic Moot Hall, the beating heart of Brampton. You’ll be surrounded by the town centre, with many shops, cafes and restaurants to discover. After your journey up (or down), we imagine you may be quite peckish, so why not go for a spot of brunch at Off The Wall and fuel yourself for a family day of exploration!

After your excellent meal at Off The Wall, you could have a shop around, or check-in at one of the many places to stay such as Brampton Holiday Homes, The Howard Arms or a short trip to The Sally. After checking in, it’s time for an adventure!

Heading south of Brampton you can visit the picturesque Talkin Tarn and stroll along the side of the water, or visit Talkin Adventures and book an archery or kayak & rowing boat experience for you and your family.

After an action-packed day at Talkin Tarn, it’s time to head back to Brampton and dine at one of our excellent restaurants or pubs, such as The Howard Arms or venture out to The Sally, just outside Brampton in the neighbouring village of Irthington.

After all that, it’s time to have a well-deserved rest ahead of tomorrow!

Freak-shakes, Alpacas & Romans, Oh My!

Sunday

Wake up! It’s time for breakfast at Mr Brown’s ahead of today’s adventures. After a walk around the town (and maybe one of the famous freak-shakes from Berry’s Tearoom), it’s time to head north towards New Mills Trout Farm. There is plenty here to keep the kids entertained including Fun Fishing and Alpaca Meet & Greets! Also on site is the Bite Cafe and Tearooms for a spot of lunch or afternoon tea. Bite Cafe also hosts themed Afternoon Teas once a month which is perfect for families, with themes ranging from Snow White to Pirates of the Caribbean!

After a meet & greet with Alpacas or some fly fishing, it’s time to visit the world-famous Hadrian’s Wall and immerse yourself in the Roman history of Northern Cumbria. At Birdoswald Roman Fort, you can visit the longest remaining stretch of the wall and explore the ruins of a formidable Roman fort and turret. You can even take part in activities such as Roman games or finding a Roman spy!

All good things must come to an end, and after Birdoswald and a busy weekend in and around Brampton, it is, regrettably, time to head back home. We hope that your weekend in Brampton leads to many precious memories made and a desire to visit us again!
