The aircraft collection at Solway is made up of post-war British jets that served with the Royal Air Force in the 1950s and 1960s, with many of them having local ties.
They’ve also chosen a few more postwar planes that they think are worth restoring and preserving.
Photographs, parts, and equipment from the ill-fated Blue Streak rocket programme, which was part of Britain’s contribution to the space race, are on display in the Bluestreak Room.
The Crosby Room, both past and present, tells the intriguing narrative of Carlisle Airport’s civilian life over the years. The Airport Fire Department is shown, as is a life-size functional replica of the tower control station, as well as the history of the different flying schools that have operated out of Carlisle Airport.
